Summary: Alex Verus is a mage, a diviner by birth. He has the unique ability to see into the possible futures and all their various outcomes. Alex is tired of the political atmosphere of the mages and after a bad experience with a past master, he has decided to stay out of the magical world and all the troubles it can bring. Alex is content to run his magic shop. Alex's life is changed when both Light Mages and Dark Mages come pounding on his door, requesting and forcing his help in the opening of an ancient relic that contains a highly prized item of power. Alex must look into all the various futures and decide just how to keep himself alive through this unwanted adventure.
My Thoughts: I had a little bit of mixed thoughts about this book, but I did end up enjoying it. It was cool to read an urban fantasy narrated by a male character and I really enjoyed his world and future watching abilities.
The first half of the book is a little slow and full of too much explanation and detail. The story just gets bogged down with Alex having to explain everything to the reader. Getting through the first half was a bit of a challenge because I just didn't feel like picking it up and reading it. Alex is also not the most exciting or charismatic main character that's ever been created. He's sort of a bore.
The second half of the story is where it really picks up and becomes an enjoyable read. The adventure/quest is fun and the characters seem to start to mesh and really get along. I ended up enjoying the ride this book took me on and plan on picking up the next book in the series.
BOOKCITEMENT LEVEL 3.3/5
Slow Start, but Awesome Adventure!
