Synopsis: Kathleen is eighty years
old. After she has a run-in with an intruder, her daughter wants her to
move into a residential home. But she’s not having any of it. What she
craves—what she needs—is adventure.
Liza is drowning in the daily stress of family life. The last thing she needs is her mother jetting off on a wild holiday, making Liza long for a solo summer of her own.
Martha
is having a quarter-life crisis. Unemployed, unloved and uninspired,
she just can’t get her life together. But she knows something has to
change.
When Martha sees Kathleen’s advertisement for a driver
and companion to share an epic road trip across America with, she
decides this job might be the answer to her prayers. She's not the
world's best driver, but anything has to be better than living with her
parents. And traveling with a stranger? No problem. Anyway, how much
trouble can one eighty-year-old woman be?
As these women embark on the journey of a lifetime, they all discover it's never too late to start over… (Synopsis from Goodreads)
My Thoughts: This story is a lot of fun and provided me with the perfect reading escape. I love a road trip, and The Summer Seekers offered up a really fun one. This followed three women who are in different stages of life: old, middle, and young. The book is told from all three perspectives and I thought that made for a really nice mix.
A big thing that drew me to this story was the premise. It just sounded really cute and fun, and that's exactly what it was. It's definitely a story that will make you feel good.
I think it does a good job of show casing that for all the challenges that come with life, it can still be a lot of fun. Kathleen really shows that age shouldn't stop you from having a good time. Just because you hit a certain age in life doesn't mean you have to feel that age. I think she does a great job of teaching this to the other characters.
This book is fun. It's a good time. I'd definitely recommend giving it a read if you're looking for something that will make you happy.
