My Thoughts: This was just the break I needed from all my dark fantasies, horror, and science fiction books I've been reading recently. I needed a break, a contemporary breather and Wesley James Ruined My Life hit the spot. It was very cute, fast, and I thought the romance was pretty adorable.

One thing about our main character Quinn, she is good at holding a grudge. For years she has held onto the belief that Wesley James ruined her life and broke apart her family. It doesn't seem to matter that there were other factors that caused her family to crumble, Wesley is the one that's going to get all the blame. And Wesley is not expecting that level of hostility when he comes back to town, he thinks that it will be simple to just be friends with Quinn again. Poor naive Wesley. So while I didn't necessarily agree with Quinn that Wesley deserved all that blame, I admired her determination.

I really enjoyed the setting of the Tudor Tymes medieval restaurant. It was really fun and I could picture that atmosphere while I was reading it. I don't necessarily understand why Wesley got to be a pirate though, but maybe that's just because I don't know my medieval history.

I enjoyed Quinn's attempts at sabotaging poor Wesley. She was ruthless! Wesley had no idea what was in store for him. One of her attempts really grossed me out and just further cemented the fact that when you go out to eat, you have no control over what is done to your food.

I enjoyed the romance that happened between Wesley and Quinn. It was cute. They were cute. I was a little worried when the girl from Wesley's past sauntered in, just because I don't really like romances that have a cheating element to them, or a current girlfriend who is kind of a block to the two main characters romance, but it was all okay in the end.

I really felt for Quinn when it came to her family struggles. She was in such a hard spot. Sometimes she made bad choices that I wanted to stop her from doing, but I could see how she thought she was helping her family.

This book was sooo cute and I really enjoyed it. It was fast, fun, cute, and funny. It's a clean romance that starts out very hate to love. I liked it a lot and I'd recommend it if you're looking for something light and fluffy to read.

My Thoughts: Oh yes, yes, yes, I liked this. I didn't really know what I was going to get when I started reading this, but Whispers From the Depths surprised me in a good way. It was verrrrry dark, much darker than I was expecting. I liked it a lot.

I really enjoyed the whole story. The world was very interesting and very dark. I enjoyed the magic. I was just kind of put under its spell. I couldn't stop reading, I just couldn't look away.

I also enjoyed getting to experience Betka as a main character. She was complex and it was just fascinating to follow her story.

I liked Whispers From the Depths a lot! I'd definitely recommend giving it a read. It's dark, haunting, intense, shocking, sometimes violent, and magical. This book was a win for me.

Fresh Releases: March 5, 2019

Get Ready for some Fresh Fresh Releases. They're Fresssshhh.
Honestly, I wasn't even going to post anything today because I'm lazy, but here I am.

 

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid and I want it!! I did get an arc from the publisher and Netgalley, but I think I want to read the physical copy instead of an electronic version.

Beautiful Bad by Annie Ward and I'm interested in this one. I love a good thriller.

What I'm Reading Right Now! is...

An Anonymous Girl by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen and I'm soooo close to being done with it. I wanted to finish it before February ended, but that didn't happen. I'm really enjoying it and I know that I'll finish it the very, very beginning of March. It's really riveting.

Borderline by Mishell Baker there's just something about this book that grabs my attention and I really do want to read it.

Shadow and Bone (Grisha #1) by Leigh Bardugo it's been my plan to reread this so I can finally finish the series. Plus with the Netflix adaptation coming at some point, I want to be caught up so I can watch it.

My Thoughts: Oh what fun this was. I'm really glad I got to give it a read. I thought it was a sweet, fun romance, and I enjoyed every minute of it. 

I enjoyed the premise of a girl engaged to one brother but falling for another. It was cute, it was sexy, it was sultry, and I just really liked it.

Amelia-Rose was a fun character to follow. She liked that London life and she was a strong lady. I enjoyed the way she fell for Niall. And Oohhh Niall, he's a good one. Definitely leading man material. Their romance was sweet and I liked watching it grow and develop. It was just a good time.

I really enjoy losing myself in a good Historical Romance, and It's Getting Scot In Here was definitely a good one. If Historical Romance is your thing, I'd definitely recommend giving It's Getting Scot In Here a read. It has a headstrong heroine, a sexy Scot, and a sweet romance. I can't wait to see how the series continues.

Fresh Releases: February 26, 2019

These Releases are Fresh Fresh!

 

-- Disney Manga: Pirates of the Caribbean - Jack Sparrow's Adventures by Rob Kidd and Kabocha I was lucky enough to receive this for review from the publisher via Netgalley and have posted my review HERE! I thought it was fun, but it didn't really give me any Pirates of the Caribbean feelings. I feel like it's a bit of a money grab, because the Jack Sparrow in this is not my Jack Sparrow. I still think it's a fun manga, but just don't go into it expecting the Jack Sparrow you already know and love.

-- The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon I've been hearing about this one a lot on the social medias, but I still have no idea what it's even about. I'm definitely interested in it though.

-- Four Dead Queens by Astrid Scholte this is another one I've been hearing a lot about and I'm very interested in reading it.

Review: Disney Manga: Pirates of the Caribbean - Jack Sparrow's Adventures by Rob Kidd and Kabocha

My Thoughts: Thank you so much to Disney and TokyoPop for letting me read and review an early copy of this manga.

I'm a big fan of Pirates of the Caribbean. It started a love of pirates for me. The plunder, the treasure, the scoundrels. So I was excited for a manga version of a young Jack Sparrow. I was already familiar with the book series about young Jack Sparrow by Rob Kidd. 

This manga was okay. It was fun, fast, the art was pretty good.

It didn't really feel like Pirates of the Caribbean to me though. It just felt like a regular manga that could have been about anyone. It didn't scream Jack Sparrow to me. The Jack Sparrow character didn't feel like the Jack Sparrow I know and love. Unfortunately, this feels like just another way to cash in on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise via manga form.

Don't get me wrong, it's a fun manga. It's got adventure and treasure hunting, it's just not Pirates of the Caribbean.

It reads more for a younger audience, although there are some art panels that maybe show some questionable parts when it comes to female anatomy.

I thought it was fun and I'm glad I got the chance to read it, but if you're a mega fan of Jack Sparrow, this manga really isn't going to fill that Captain Jack void.

Not the Jack Sparrow I Was Expecting
