Synopsis: She’s not here to make friends. She’s here to make trouble.

With her piercings, tattoos and spiky blond hair, Ellen Truesdale doesn’t quite fit in with the other folks in Coyote Canyon—and that’s just fine with her. She’s only here to put her father out of business, as payback for abandoning her when she was young.

Or is she more interested in finally proving that she was worth keeping?

Either way, she’s struggling to keep her rival well-drilling company afloat. And being a single woman in a male-dominated field has started to take a toll. So when Hendrix Durrant steps in to help, Ellen has no choice but to let him—even though he happens to be her father’s business partner and therefore her enemy. But the closer she works with him, the more she sees what she’s been missing…in life and love. And once she lets go of her anger long enough to learn the truth about her past, she might just find the family she’s always wanted.
(Synopsis from Goodreads)

My Thoughts: I enjoyed this one. Ellen is one determined lady.
This is a book that deals with strained family relationships. Ellen is trying to get back at her estranged father. This actually had more going on with it then I expected.
I'm always a sucker for small towns, so of course I really liked that aspect.
I also enjoyed the dynamic between Ellen and Hendrix. I appreciated that Ellen was one tough girl. She entered a field that is dominated mainly by men, and she had the drive to succeed in it.
I can see a lot of people enjoying this one. It's a solid story.

Title: Heart Like a Cowboy (Cowboy Brothers in Arms #1)

Synopsis: He’s Emerald Creek’s hottest cowboy—and the one man she shouldn’t want

On the surface, Egan Donnelly is hometown hero material—top gun, commanding an elite fighter training squadron and ranching royalty. Inside, he feels like a fraud, convinced he’s responsible for his best friend’s death. At least he won't let himself succumb to the heat between him and Jack’s widow, Alana. But now that she’s making regular trips to his ranch to care for his dad, that vow is getting harder to keep.

Alana Davidson isn’t just grieving her husband’s loss, she’s feeling betrayed over his secret infidelity. Wanting Egan makes things even more complicated. As a nutritionist, she can help Egan’s dad recover from his health scare, but it’s not so easy to get her own heart back on track. Because despite shared guilt and family pressure, she’s falling fast, and Egan is right there with her…
(Synopsis from Goodreads)

My Thoughts: Yee-haw! I feel like that must be said or thought when a Cowboy book comes into your hands. This one had so much drama in the backstory.
Not only do we have a cowboy, but Egan is also a military man. Alana is the widow of his best friend, who he feels guilty over his death.
It's such drama when the best friend's girl is involved. There's even more drama with the secret infidelity of Alana's dead husband.
I had a good time reading this. I liked the love story. I obviously enjoyed the drama. I can see a lot of other people enjoying this one too.

Synopsis: Winner of the 2021 PEN/Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction, a thought-provoking and enchanting debut about a Black woman doing whatever it takes to protect all she loves at the beginning of the civil rights movement in Alabama.

It’s 1957, and after leaving the only home she has ever known, Alice Young steps off the bus into the all-Black town of New Jessup, Alabama, where residents have largely rejected integration as the means for Black social advancement. Instead, they seek to maintain, and fortify, the community they cherish on their “side of the woods.” In this place, Alice falls in love with Raymond Campbell, whose clandestine organizing activities challenge New Jessup’s longstanding status quo and could lead to the young couple’s expulsion—or worse—from the home they both hold dear. But as Raymond continues to push alternatives for enhancing New Jessup’s political power, Alice must find a way to balance her undying support for his underground work with her desire to protect New Jessup from the rising pressure of upheaval from inside, and outside, their side of town.

Jamila Minnicks’s debut novel is both a celebration of Black joy and a timely examination of the opposing viewpoints that attended desegregation in America. Readers of Brit Bennett’s The Vanishing Half and Robert Jones, Jr.’s The Prophets will love Moonrise Over New Jessup. (Synopsis from Goodreads

BLOG TOUR: The Fiction Writer by Jillian Cantor

I'm excited to be a part of the Blog Tour for The Fiction Writer by Jillian Cantor! I received a free electronic copy for an honest review from the publisher. Thanks so much to Park Row and Jillian Cantor for letting me be a part of the tour!

Title: The Fiction Writer
Author: Jillian Cantor
Published by: Park Row
Released: November 28, 2023
Source: Electronic Review Copy Provided by Publisher
Goodreads          Amazon

Synopsis: From the USA Today-bestselling author of Beautiful Little Fools, Jillian Cantor's The Fiction Writer follows a writer hired by a handsome billionaire to write about his family history with Daphne du Maurier and finds herself drawn into a tangled web of obsession, marital secrets, and stolen manuscripts.

The once-rising literary star Olivia Fitzgerald is down on her luck. Her most recent novel—a retelling of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca—was a flop, her boyfriend of nine years just dumped her and she’s battling a bad case of writer’s block. So when her agent calls her with a high-paying ghostwriting opportunity, Olivia is all too willing to sign the NDA.

At first, the write-for-hire job seems too good to be true. All she has to do is interview Henry “Ash” Asherwood, a reclusive mega billionaire, twice named People’s Sexiest Man Alive, who wants her help in writing a book that reveals a shocking secret about his late grandmother and Daphne du Maurier. But when Olivia arrives at his Malibu estate, nothing is as it seems. The more Olivia digs into his grandmother’s past, the more questions she has—and before she knows it, she’s trapped in a gothic mystery of her own.

With as many twists and turns as the California coast, The Fiction Writer is a thriller that explores the boundaries of creative freedom and whose stories we have the right to tell.
(Synopsis from Goodreads)

My Thoughts: All the synopsis had to mention was Daphne du Maurier, and I was sold! I had a lot of fun reading this one. I loved the isolated setting, the strange mega billionaire, and discovering the secrets of the past with our main character Olivia.
This book does take a while to reveal it's secrets. Olivia does do some things that don't help the mystery really move forward. A more focused detective could have probably solved this one sooner.
If you like Daphne du Maurier and gothic novels, then this would be a fun one to read. I love the idea of it all.

BLOG TOUR: A Demon's Guide to Wooing a Witch by Sarah Hawley

I'm excited to be a part of the Blog Tour for A Demon's Guide to Wooing a Witch by Sarah Hawley! I received a free electronic copy for an honest review from the publisher. Thanks so much to Berkley and Sarah Hawley for letting me be a part of this tour!

Title: A Demon's Guide to Wooing a Witch
Author: Sarah Hawley
Published by: Berkley
Released: November 28, 2023
Source: Electronic Review Copy Provided by Publisher
Goodreads          Amazon

Synopsis: Calladia Cunnington curses the day she met Astaroth the demon, but when he shows up memoryless, why does she find him so helpless . . . and sort of hot?

Calladia Cunnington knows she's rough around the edges, despite being the heir to one of small-town Glimmer Falls' founding witch families. While her gym obsession is a great outlet for her anxieties and anger, her hot temper still gets the best of her and manifests in bar brawls. When Calladia saves someone from a demon attack one night, though, she's happy to put her magic and rage to good use . . . until she realizes the man she saved is none other than Astaroth, the ruthless demon who orchestrated a soul bargain on her best friend.

Astaroth is a legendary soul bargainer and one of the nine members of the demon high council--except he can't remember any of this. Suffering from amnesia after being banished to the mortal plane, Astaroth doesn't know why a demon named Moloch is after him, nor why the muscular, angry, hot-in-a-terrifying-way witch who saved him hates him so much.

Unable to leave anyone in such a vulnerable state--even the most despicable demon--Calladia grudgingly decides to help him. (Besides, punching an amnesiac would be in poor taste.) The two set out on an uneasy road trip to find the witch who might be able to restore Astaroth's memory so they can learn how to defeat Moloch. Calladia vows that once Astaroth is cured, she'll kick his ass, but the more time she spends with the snarky yet utterly charming demon, the more she realizes she likes this new, improved Astaroth . . . and maybe she doesn't want him to recover his memories, after all.
(Synopsis from Goodreads)

My Thoughts: I love stories like this, so as soon as I read the synopsis for A Demon's Guide to Wooing a Witch, I had a good feeling. There is just something so fun about a witchy romance.
I definitely had a good time with this one. This is the second book in the Glimmer Falls Series, so it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to check out the first book first.
I liked the dynamic Calladia and Astaroth shared. I also really enjoyed the switch of Calladia being the buff and tough one.
I can see a lot of people enjoying this book, and this series! If you're looking for a fun paranormal romance, add this to your radar.

Synopsis: They met when they were teenagers. Now they’re adults, and time has been kind to some and unkind to others—none more so than to Bea, the one they lost nine long years ago. They’ve gathered to reminisce at Bea’s family’s estate, a once-glorious mansion straight out of a gothic novel. Best friends, old flames, secret enemies, and new lovers are all under one roof—but when the weather turns and they’re snowed in at the edge of eternity, there’s nowhere left to hide from their shared history.

As the walls close in, the pretense of normality gives way to long-buried grief, bitterness, and rage. Underneath it all, there’s the nagging feeling that Bea’s shocking death wasn’t what it was claimed to be. And before the weekend is through, the truth will be unleashed—no matter the cost. (Synopsis from Goodreads

My Thoughts: This book had a lot of buzz words for me that made me want to read it. I love the isolated settings, creepy old houses, and storms that trap the characters all in one place. The locked room vibe is just a lot of fun.
This was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the secrets and the craziness. I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.
This group of friends have a lot of things to work through as they try to get through being trapped in this house.
If you like isolated settings and secrets, then you should definitely give this one a try.

A story of survival in the wilds of Alaska, The Beautiful and the Wild explores the question of whether we can ever truly know the person we love—or ourselves.

My Thoughts: I loved the setting of Alaska in this one. This was full of danger and thrills. Not only does Liv have to figure out how to get away from an abusive ex, she also has to survive the extremes of the Alaskan wilderness.
This was very suspenseful. I could feel time running out for the character while I was reading.
This was a very thrilling read! I could see a lot of people enjoying it.

)

My Thoughts: I had fun with this one. I was drawn in by the synopsis and the cute cover!
Our main character is a romance writer and our love interest in a former teen heartthrob. That is just a good time for a book, in my opinion.
Of course, relationships do not run smooth. Sophie is on a quest to find out why she's never fallen in love. Dash has issues of his own that they have to work through.
I think a lot of people will enjoy this one. I'm glad I got to read it.

Synopsis: Sail the magical high seas with this first book in a new sexy fantasy romance series from Katee Robert, the New York Times bestselling author of the TikTok smash-hit Neon Gods.

Evelyn is a witch with a perfect storm of impulses: terrible taste in bed partners, sticky fingers, and a lust for danger. She’s immediately given a choice—join their group or die.

Bowen has no memory of his life before he became one of the Cŵn Annwn. He and his pirate crew are bound by vow to patrol through Threshold, the magical sea in between realms, keeping the portals to other worlds safe. When he rescues Evelyn, he doesn’t expect to be attracted to the unflappably brassy pickpocket. The longer he spends in her presence, the more he begins to question if his heart is the next thing she’ll steal.

But as tension heats up between Bowen and Evelyn, danger escalates as well. Because Evelyn has no intention of keeping her vows to the Cŵn Annwn, and if she betrays the crew, both she and Bowen will pay the ultimate price....
(Synopsis from Goodreads)

My Thoughts: I really liked how this was a mash up of pirates and paranormal. Pirates are one of my buzz words. I just really like pirates. Witches, vampires, and telekinesis are also things I really enjoy.
I've read from Katee Robert before, so I kind of knew what I was getting into. I knew there were going to be sexy times, and there were! I found some of the scenes kind of ridiculous, but this is the kind of book where you just go with the flow.
I enjoyed this. It was a fun time.

BLOG TOUR: The Wishing Bridge by Viola Shipman

I'm excited to be a part of the Blog Tour for The Wishing Bridge by Viola Shipman! I received a free electronic copy from the publisher for an honest review. Thanks so much to Graydon House and Viola Shipman for letting me be a part of this tour!

Goodreads          Amazon

Synopsis: With unabashed winter charm, The Wishing Bridge sparkles with the humor and heart fans of Kristy Woodson Harvey, Nancy Thayer and Jenny Colgan love most.

Once the hottest mergers and acquisitions executive in the company, Henrietta Wegner can see the ambitious and impossibly young up-and-comers gunning for her job. When Henri’s boss makes it clear she’ll be starting the New Year unemployed unless she can close a big deal before the holidays, Henri impulsively tells him that she can convince her aging parents to sell Wegner’s—their iconic Frankenmuth, Michigan, Christmas store—to a massive, soulless corporation. It’s the kind of deal cool, corporate Henri has built her career on.

Home for the holidays has typically meant a perfunctory twenty-four-hour visit for Henri, then back to Detroit as fast as her car will drive her. So turning up at the Wegner’s offices in early December raises some eyebrows: from her delighted, if puzzled, parents to her suspicious brother and curious childhood friends. But as Henri fields impatient texts from her boss while reconnecting with the magic of the store and warmth of her hometown, what sounded great in the boardroom begins to lose its luster in real life. She’s running out of time to pull the trigger on what could be the greatest success of her career…or the most awkward family holiday of her life.

Includes the bonus novella Christmas Angels (Synopsis from Goodreads
)

My Thoughts: What a Christmas Treat! This was a fun read! The synopsis really caught my attention, so I knew I had to read it.
I enjoyed this one. I loved Henri coming back to her hometown, which was so cozy. It was full of family and love. Henri has forgotten the charm of her small Michigan hometown in favor of city corporate life.
Henri does come home for some nefarious purposes and she needs Frankenmuth, Michigan to remind her of what is really important.
This was full of Christmas cheer and I could see a lot of people really enjoying this one.

There’s the bride, nervous about an old relationship; a groomsman grappling with a big mistake; Athena’s mother, ready to date again; and even a potential new romantic interest.

By the time the cake is cut and the ultimate betrayal is revealed, Athena must find the courage to forgive—both others and herself—and embrace the beauty of a chance to move forward. (Synopsis from Goodreads

My Thoughts: This was a fun one. I love how it's pretty much all set at a wedding. Let's just say this wedding is full of drama.
This is a genre that I don't tend to read a lot of, but it's fun to check it out every so often.
I don't think this book will be for everybody. There will be people that like it, and there will be people that don't. I think that's an obvious for all books though. This has a focus on religion that might not be for everyone.
I liked this for the drama. The drama was fun.
If this sounds good to you, you should definitely give it a read.

Synopsis: A bold new stand-alone thriller from the longtime James Patterson coauthor.

It’s summer in New York City and Faye Walker has it all. She’s not only scored one of the most highly coveted internships on all of Wall Street, she’s also just met the head-over-heels love of her life. With her natural-born gift for numbers and a work ethic that knows no bounds, Faye is a shoo-in for a full-time position at the illustrious merchant bank Greene Brothers Hale. Then, just as she awaits her offer and her signing bonus, a treacherous betrayal arrives to shatter Faye’s plans and her young life.

But what her high finance masters-of-the-universe bosses don’t know is that Faye isn’t like any of the other interns. Having made her way past her humble small-town beginnings, for Faye, going back is not an option. That’s why Faye now has a new plan. One that involves Swiss watch timing, nerves of steel and ten million dollars in cold hard Wall Street cash.

My Thoughts: This was fun! It's not the type of book I pick up all the time. It was a nice change from my usual reads. This is definitely a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I was very interested in seeing Faye plot and carry out her intricate plans.
I don't usually read about the world of finance. It's not usually something that sends a thrill down my spin. Ledwidge made this story a lot of fun. I'm glad I read this thriller.
