Synopsis: Investigator Jessica Niemi is in a race against time to find the link between a body with strange markings that has washed up on a frigid shore in Finland and two mysterious disappearances in this terrifying new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of the Witch Hunter.
Six months have passed since Jessica's encounter with the mysterious serial-killing coven of witches and the death of her mentor Erne. Her nightmares about her mother and the witchcraft that undid her have only gotten worse, but she's doing what she can to stay focused. Her homicide squad, now under new leadership, has been given a murder case and a new series of disappearances to investigate. A young woman's corpse has washed up on an icy beach, and two famous Instagram influencers have gone missing at the same time.
The missing influencers and the murdered woman all have ties to a sinister cult. Jessica finds an eerie painting--of a lighthouse on a frigid island--as she investigates and under the picture is a gruesome poem detailing a murder. The nightmares about her dead mother have intensified and seem all too real, making Jessica wonder if the woman might be trying to tell her something about the killings. And as Jessica works frantically to solve her latest case, her terrifying past and the coven of witches that almost killed her shockingly reemerge and threaten to destroy her. (Synopsis from Goodreads)

My Thoughts: This book cover just screams winter and Nordic Noir. I'm here for it. Once I picked this one up, I couldn't really put it down. The mystery really grabbed me and I had to solve it. I wasn't right in trying to figure everything out, but I had a lot of fun trying.
I really enjoyed the mystery of this. I thought it was written in such a way that really grabbed my attention. I liked our detective of Jessica Niemi. I liked our frigid setting. Witches and Cults are always fun too.
I really enjoyed reading this one and will definitely check out more from this author. If you're looking for some Nordic Noir, I'd definitely say give it a read. It will definitely make you feel the winter vibes.

Title: It Started With A Dog (Lucky Dog #2)
Author: Julia London

Released: October 5, 2021

Synopsis: Thanks to an accidental phone swap, two adorable rescue pups, and a coffeehouse clash, a holiday flirtation goes to the dogs and hilarity ensues, from New York Times bestselling author Julia London.
All Harper Thompson wants for Christmas is the huge promotion she's worked so hard for--which she should get, as long as her launch of the hip new coffeehouse, Deja Brew, goes according to plan. Jonah Rogers is trying to save his family's coffee shop, Lucky Star, from going out of business, which will be tough with the brand-new Deja Brew opening across the street.
When Jonah and Harper meet for the first time after accidentally swapping phones, their chemistry is as electric as a strand of Christmas lights. He's a tall, handsome, compassionate hunk of engineer, and she's an entrepreneur whose zest for life is very sexy. They love all the same things, like scary movies, greasy food--and most of all, dogs. It's a match made in heaven...until Jonah finds out that Harper's the one about to put him out of business.
Only one coffee shop likely can survive, and a competition of one-upmanship ensues in a battle of the brews. The paws really come out when the local rescue shelter has a fundraiser where local businesses foster dogs, and patrons vote with their dollars for their favorite pup. Harper takes in an adorable old bulldog on behalf of Deja Brew, while Jonah fosters a perky three-legged dachshund for Lucky Star. As the excitement builds for who will be crowned King Mutt and king of the coffee hill, Harper and Jonah must decide if their connection was all steam or if they are the perfect blend. (Synopsis from Goodreads)

My Thoughts: I love dogs and I love romance, so this book was a perfect fit for me. This book was just all kinds of fun. There are some cute foster dogs, a business rivalry, and a competition to come out on top.
Jonah and Harper work for rival coffee chains, so when they find that out, there is definitely some tension between them. Then the foster dog competition kicks into gear. Both of them want to win and prove themselves. There was some back and forth, but nothing of a diabolical level. It was just cute tension.
I liked the dogs. The dogs were very cute.
This book was just cute. It was a good time, a good read. It just made me feel good.
If you're looking for something cute to read and enjoy, I'd definitely be on the lookout for this October 5th.

Title: Sweet Love (Forever Adirondacks #2)
Author: Lauren Accardo
Published by: Berkley
Released: September 28, 2021
Source: Electronic Review Copy provided by Publisher

Synopsis: Falling for your best friend might be a recipe for disaster, but this small-town baker can't help jumping from her pie pan into the fire.
Mila Bailey has always had a special talent for creating unique, show-stopping pies. But until her great-aunt leaves her the entry fee to the Pine Ridge Spring Bake-Off, she's only ever shared them with friends and family. Thrust into the spotlight, Mila is determined to prove to everyone--but mostly herself--that she has what it takes to compete with top-level bakers. There's only one flaw in her plan: The not-so-half-baked feelings she's starting to develop for her best friend, Jared Kirkland.
Jared has always believed in Mila's gifts, but lately he's struggling not to fantasize about sampling more than just the spoon from the batter. No matter how much he tries to tell himself that Mila is not for him--his dreams have always reached beyond Pine Ridge--he can't deny this new spark between them.
Mila embodies Pine Ridge, and Jared wants to break free. How can either of them move on knowing the loves of their lives have been right under their noses all along? (Synopsis from Goodreads)

My Thoughts: This book is SWEET! and I enjoyed every page of it. I loved the best friends to romance, all the baking, the baking competition, and this great small town setting. It had so many things that I was just drawn to.
I really loved the small town setting of this. There is just something about small towns that always draws me to a book. They are so much more personal then big cities. I also loved how it takes place in the Adirondacks. It really gives it a great sense of place.
I really enjoyed the whole baking competition and Mila finally showcasing her talent with more than just friends. It was the perfect kind of premise to read about.
Of course I enjoyed the romance. As much as I love the bad boy getting the girl kind of thing, it just feels good when it's a nice guy and a nice guy finally getting together after having a great friendship. It's just nice, plus romantic!
This was a good time and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. If you like small town romances, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a read. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Reading Right Now! (312)

I really struggled with my last book that I was reading, I really like the series, but the sequel was just too long for no good reason. That book was in my last Reading Right Now! It was European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman by Theodora Goss. I'm such a fan of the Athena Club series, but that book was too dang long. The length was not justified by what ended up happening in it. I'm still a fan of the series though. I'm happy that I can move on to something else.
So, what I'm Reading Right Now! is...

Caliban's War (The Expanse #2) by James S.A. Corey -- Hooray! I am buddy reading this with my friends Ke-sha and Geraldine. I read Leviathan Wakes maybe two months ago, and I liked it, but it was definitely intense.
I'm maybe close to 50 pages in so far, and it's already started off with a bang. I'm excited to see where it goes. This is the kind of sci-fi that I really, really enjoy. When I want an epic space opera adventure, this series is what I mean.

And that's what I'm Reading Right Now! What are you reading this weekend?

I am very excited to be a part of the Blog Tour for Last Seen Alone by Laura Griffin. I received a free electronic copy for honest review from the publisher. Thanks so much to Berkley Books and Laura Griffin for letting me be a part of this thrilling tour.

Title: Last Seen Alone
Author: Laura Griffin
Published by: Berkley Books
Released: September 28, 2021
Source: Electronic Review Copy from Publisher

Synopsis: When they face the most baffling missing person's case of their careers, a fiercely ambitious lawyer and a homicide detective have no one to turn to for help except each other, from New York Times bestselling author Laura Griffin.
Up-and-coming attorney Leigh Larson fights for victims of sexual extortion, harassment, and online abuse. She is not afraid to go after the sleaziest targets to get payback for her clients. Leigh is laser-focused on her career--to the exclusion of everything else--until a seemingly routine case and a determined cop turn her world upside down.
Austin homicide detective Brandon Reynolds is no stranger to midnight callouts. But when he gets summoned to an abandoned car on a desolate road, he quickly realizes he's dealing with an unusual crime scene. A pool of blood in the nearby woods suggests a brutal homicide. But where is the victim? The vehicle is registered to twenty-six-year-old Vanessa Adams. Searching the car, all Brandon finds is a smear of blood and a business card for Leigh Larson, attorney-at-law.
Vanessa had hired Leigh just before her disappearance, but Leigh has no leads on who could have wanted her dead. Faced with bewildering evidence and shocking twists, Leigh and Brandon must work against the clock to chase down a ruthless criminal who is out for vengeance. (Synopsis from Goodreads )

My Thoughts: This was just the kind of read I was looking for. It was so easy to get sucked into the story and read, read, read. I really liked the lawyer cop duo of Leigh and Brandon. I liked the back and forth they had, and how they worked together.
I was also pretty interested and invested in the case. I liked trying to figure out all the clues and see where it was going to go next.
I also was a fan of the writing style. It hooked me. Laura Griffin gave me a good story that I just wanted to read until the end.
If you're looking for a romantic suspense that will grab your attention, I definitely recommend giving this one a read.

BLOG TOUR: On Location by Sarah Echavarre Smith

I am really excited to be a part of the Blog Tour for On Location by Sarah Echavarre Smith! I received a free electronic copy for honest review from the publisher. Thanks so much to Berkley and Sarah Echavarre Smith for letting me be a part of this tour!

Title: On Location
Author: Sarah Echavarre Smith
Published by: Berkley
Released: September 21, 2021
Source: Review Copy from Publisher

Synopsis: Nothing like a rocky start between enemy coworkers stuck together on location to prove that love isn't just a ploy for ratings—it's a force of nature.
Alia Dunn has finally gotten her big break. After years of working her way up at TV's top outdoor travel channel, she gets the green light from network executives to bring her dream project to life: produce a series about Utah's national parks. It's a touching tribute to her late apong, who sparked Alia's passion for travel and the outdoors as a kid.
Alia is thrilled—until she meets her newest crew member, Drew Irons. The same Drew she had the most amazing first date with two weeks ago—who then ghosted her. The same Drew who has the most deliciously thick forearms and who loves second-guessing her every move on set in front of the entire crew. It's not long before the tension between them turns hotter than the Utah desert in the dead of summer, and their steamy encounters lead to major feelings.
But when the series host goes rogue one too many times, jeopardizing the entire shoot, Alia realizes that she'll need to organize one hell of a coup to save her show—and she'll need Drew's help to do it. It's the riskiest move she's ever made. If she pulls it off, she'll end up with a hit series and her dream guy . . . but if it all goes wrong, she could lose both. (Synopsis from Goodreads)

My Thoughts: This was a lot of fun and I enjoyed every page as I was reading. It gave me that perfect reading escape that I was looking for. I am always a sucker for books where an antagonistic relationship turns into something more. I love the snark that happens in these kinds of stories.
I really enjoyed the premise for On Location. I really enjoyed the nature show setting, as well as Alia getting her dream job. It made a perfect backdrop for the relationship to grow. It also meant that Alia and Drew were stuck with each other. There was no place to really escape, they had to come to an understanding.
This book was just a lot of fun, as I have said before. It was the perfect reading escape. It was exactly what I was looking for. I would definitely recommend it.

My Thoughts: I love these kinds of stories, and I really enjoyed This Is Why We Lie. I'm always game for a book with secrets and murder. I thought this one was a lot of twists, turns, and fun.
I really liked the murder mystery aspect of this, as well as the two voices telling the story. I also really enjoyed school settings, and added bonus that there were two schools in such proximity.
I really enjoyed the way that the story was laid out. I was always kept on my toes, second guessing who or what was really going on.
This is the kind of book that is just fun to read. It gives you a story that captures your attention and keeps it until the last page is turned. This is a good one. I'm definitely going to have to lookout for more by Gabriella Lepore.

Reading Right Now! (311)

This week I've decided to go crazy and read two very chunky monkey books. Technically, I've started one, but not the other.
So, what I'm Reading Right Now! is...

European Travel for the Monstrous Gentlewoman (#2) by Theodora Goss -- This book is a beast! Over 700 pages. I do love this series though and I'm happy to be back with these characters. It is too long though. Too long for what it is. I'm  almost halfway though, I can do it!

Caliban's War (#2) by James S.A. Corey -- I haven't started this one just yet, but I'm definitely planning to. I'm going to be doing a buddy read for this one with some of my friends. This is a 500+ page book, so a little shorter than the previous one mentioned, things are looking up. I'm excited to see what happens in this. The first book was pretty crazy.

And that's what I'm Reading Right Now! What are you Reading?

Liam knows this is the last chance to save his soul. But does he love Cora enough to let her go? (Synopsis from Goodreads)

My Thoughts: I love time travel books, and I'm always excited when I get my hands on a new one. This was a good time. It's the second book in the Providence Falls Series, and I would recommend starting with that one. This picks up not too far after the events of Book 1. Liam is trying to make Cora fall in love with Finley Walsh, but that's hard when he has feelings for her, and they've been partnered together to solve a case. Liam is trying his best to fix what he messed up in the past, but can he stay away from her?
I really enjoyed this one. I liked the romance mixed with the time travel angle. I also really enjoyed how much of a struggle Liam was going through to fix the time mess he made. Oh and I also like how there's a mystery element woven into this too. This is an enjoyable series.

My Thoughts: Skunk and Badger are back at it again! This series is such a cute read. I love it. Skunk and Badger are such an unlikely pair, but their friendship is one to root for. The do a great job of complementing each other.
Badger needs a little help opening up, and Skunk does a great job of being the animal he needs. This is such a sweet tale of friendship.

Reading Right Now! (310)

I probably said already, but I'm participating in Becca's Bookoplathon and The Magical Readathon this month, or at least trying to. The book (as seen below) is my second dice roll, I got a Community Shelf card, where I played a game of Eeney Meeney Miney Moe. I used it for The Magical Readathon Prompt of Orillum Academy Arc, which was to read a book with a school setting.
So, what I'm Reading Right Now! and almost finished with is...

For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing -- I am enjoying this so much! Samantha Downing has not let me down with a book yet. This is a lot of fun. It's like watching an intense ping pong match, I have no idea where the story is going to go, and I'm constantly watching it all go down. It's a wild ride. I won't say that it's the most intense book when it comes to the thriller category, but it's a lot of fun. It takes place in the exclusive Belmont Academy, where the students are rich, and the parents are pushy. It also has a pretty awful teacher, and guy named Teddy Crutcher. He's so petty, and bad, but so fun to read about. I'd definitely recommend this one. I'm almost to the end and I can't wait to see where it all goes. I recommend any book by Samantha Downing, they're all great.

And that's what I'm Reading Right Now! As well as how I'm doing in my attempt at the readathons. What are you reading?

My Thoughts: I really enjoy these kinds of stories that involve family and a vast amount of drama. The Inheritance was a lot of fun to read.
I really enjoyed the dual timeline in this, which explores their grandmother's story. I liked that added extra of WWII France.
I also really liked how this was a story of sisters (or if you want to get technical, half-sisters), sisters that didn't really know anything about each other until recently. I liked how they really got to know each other through the course of the story. They were all dealing with different things in their lives, but this Oregon vineyard really helps them bond.
I enjoyed this book. I liked the family saga. I liked how it had a nice historical element to it. I liked how we got to see a family come together. It was a good reading time.
