My Thoughts: This Graphic Novel is Beautiful! It's so pretty. I will forever judge all other comics/graphic novels harder for their artwork now, especially when they have panels that feel rushed. Reading Monstress was such a pleasure just because it was so freaking pretty. I'll probably just keep repeating over and over how pretty it is, but I don't think you realize. Sana Takeda's art makes me drool. Every panel, every page was gorgeous. There was such detail put into it, none of it was rushed. The artwork you see on the cover is the artwork that greets you on every panel of the page. I'm just in awe. Such talent, such skill!
As far as the story goes, at times it could be a little confusing. I'd say it took me two full chapters to really grasp just what was going on. The little notes from Professor Cat (I'm sorry, I don't remember the little cat's name, just that it was a cat and she was cute,) were very helpful for trying to understand the history of the Arcanic and the Cumaea. It's an interesting story. I'm definitely going to continue on with it. I want to know what's going to happen with Maika Halfwolf and all the other creatures she meets.
The real strength of Monstress lies in the artwork. It's just beautiful. The story is interesting enough, but it's the art style that really sells it. I'm excited to check out the next Volume.

BOOKCITEMENT LEVEL 4/5
Beautiful. A tad confusing, but it's so PRETTY!
